Brand New Dog-Friendly Mylo’s Gelateria Opens At Gardens By The Bay

Bring your friends, family and paw-babies to Mylo’s for gorgeous handcrafted gelato, classic bakes, tipples and a great time

Mylo and chef Michael Wilson

Lovingly named after chef and churner-in-chief Michael Wilson’s beloved golden retriever, Mylo’s is the coolest (pun intended) place in town for people and pups to chill and hang out over handcrafted gelato, homemade bakes, classic sandwiches and cheeky tipples. Wilson lovingly conceptualised Mylo’s as a conceptualised as a dog-friendly space where he could bring his own pup to work. And if you’re a fur parent, your little fur baby gets homemade dog biscuits and pup-friendly popsicle treats to beat the heat too.

Located at Garden’s by the Bay Active Garden, Mylo’s offers a tranquil green escape along the Waterfront Promenade, sitting hidden away on the popular waterfront running and cycling route. Floor to ceiling windows wash the glasshouse café with natural sunlight, providing front-row seats to the surrounding green environs, and enhancing warm wooden and rattan interiors. A striking turquoise gelato bar and a hot pink neon Mylo’s sign deliver flashes of exuberant colour, so you know you’re in for a treat.

Gelato in cups

Wilson and his resident gelatier, the affable Wei Lin, conjure and churn more than 20 seasonal gelati onsite, serving them in moreish housemade cones, drowned in affogato or stuffed into a lightly-toasted brioche, all done using traditional gelato spades (prices start at $5 for a single serve of gelato in a cup).

Each proprietary gelato recipe begins with a base of French cream and high-quality milk to produce a deliciously clean, fresh tasting foundation for the remaining ingredients. Sit indoors or bring your pups and dine alfresco on the outdoor terrace overlooking the garden’s lush greenery and sweeping views of Marina Bay.

A gleaming stainless steel gelato Pozzetti display takes centre stage at Mylo’s. The most traditional way of storing and preserving gelato, steel buckets with covered lids ensure the creamy consistency and integrity of the gelato is maintained with the contents kept perfectly tempered and protected from light and air within a sealed cold well.

Amazingly, each gelato profile tastes exactly only of the top quality ingredients it is concocted with, namely fresh fruits, nuts and purees, all without additives and preservatives. While flavours change seasonally, there are always at least 20 varieties on offer, ranging from milk-based and alcohol-laced gelati to light, bright fruit sorbets. One of our favourites was the “Coconut and Pandan” gelato, which seriously tasted only of the sweet flesh and water from fresh Thai coconuts, and fresh pandan. Such clean flavours, you know there can’t be any nasties in something this transparent.

Equally impressive is Mylo’s “Apple Pie” gelato , where a physical homemade apple pie (complete with the pie crust), is blended into the frozen dessert, so that the gelato’s flavour profile oozes with all the authentic components of a baked spiced apple pie crumble and ice cream. Genius!

Other must-try flavours include the “Strawberry Tart”, made using fresh strawberry puree, housemade sable and anglaise into gelato form. The “Tiramisu” gelato is the ultimate pick-me-up consisting of blended espresso, mascarpone and Licor 43 (a Spanish liqueur). “Smoked Maple Bacon” gelato sees bacon-infused milk and maple syrup churned and smoked with apple wood chips. Even classic favourites are taken up a notch with “Vanilla” receiving a hit of Himalayan pink salt; “Milk Chocolate” is paired with a savoury miso;  “Pineapple” is infused with Szechuan peppercorns to enhance the inherent beauty of the humble fruit; Amalfi bergamots feature prominently in the “Lemon” Sorbet; while 66% Valrhona Chocolate is the base for the rich, deep and dark notes of Mylo’s classic “Chocolate” gelato.

Affogato – Vanilla and Himalayan Pink Salt Gelato and Espresso

For something truly unique, Mylo’s takes the “drowned” Affogato concept one step further with their own deliciously drowned modern rendition of “Vanilla and Himalayan Pink Salt gelato with Papa’s Grove Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Honey and Fennel Pollen”. The gelato is drowned in an emulsion of Papa’s Grove EVOO and honey, where the olive oil is produced on the Papa’s Grove farm, while the honey is harvested in the Peloponnese area. The gelato is then finished with a sprinkle of fennel pollen.

And if you really want to beat the heat with a spiked drink, Mylo’s serves up 5% alcoholic gelati. Dive into the “Margarita” – a melange of lime juice, tequila, sugar and salt, or opt for the “Jasmine Oolong and Passionfruit” gelato with a dash of sparkling prosecco.

Apart from the gelati and frozen treats, Mylo’s also offers a dazzling array of freshly baked cakes, sandwiches and pastries made using traditional recipes. Carrot Cake, Banana Bread, Brownies and Muffins make up some of the sweet treats, while Tuna Melt, Ham & Cheese and Tomato & Buffalo Mozzarella Paninis make up classic savoury house favourites. Enjoy your plates and pastries with a Throwback Blend by local coffee roasters PPP Coffee or opt for a refreshing Aperol and Campari Spritz or Mythos Beer.

Furry friends are treated to pawfully good pup-friendly snacks that include everything from home baked Pumpkin & Oat and Peanut Butter & Honey dog biscuits to Chicken & Beef Bone Broth and Yoghurt & Mango popsicles. Your first dog biscuit is on the house, and Mylo’s even provides water dishes for all their furry friends.
