An Afternoon Tea to Remember At The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

A Bangkok institution for nearly 150 years, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is still the stuff of luxurious dreams despite its age. To experience this place in style, you must try their Afternoon Tea, which is simply out of this world!

The Mandarin Oriental hotel group is known as such due to the two historic hotels that founded it: The Mandarin, now known as Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, and of course, The Oriental, now known as Mandarin Oriental Bangkok.

In 1876, The Oriental was the first luxury hotel in Thailand, then known as the Kingdom of Siam. Now, it’s a legendary hotel known far and wide, and their Afternoon Tea is truly something special.

Step into the bright and glamorous Author’s Lounge, where you will sit in comfortable rattan armchairs with a white tablecloth-laden table between you, overlooking the gardens outside and the gorgeous venue. Every detail has a purpose in this colonial style palace of a venue, with an immaculate white aesthetic.

Serving prestigious TWG teas, you are given a choice as to what you drink, but don’t miss the TWG Royal Darjeeling, known as the King of Indian teas, it is a black tea with the fragrance of dried fruit that invites you to keep sipping, as the overtones of ripe apricots add a touch of bitterness to the palate.

Another delectable choice, the TWG 1837 Black tea, with a pleasant cherry aroma that evolves to reveal complex flavours of berries and vanilla, and a lingering aftertaste of cinnamon, rum and caramel.

Begin your feast with the mango scones, accompanied by an assortment of homemade jams, followed by Thai nibbles, each one even tastier than the last. Discover their Thai-influenced pastries with addictive flavours of mango, coconut, and other exotic fruits.

Finish your afternoon with their velvety ‘La Grande Dame’ tea sorbet with mandarin and bergamot. Enjoy the rich taste of clementine, mandarin and yuzu, creamy and citrusy, this is the perfect treat to cool down in the heat of Bangkok. Of course, you are also treated to other sweets, both classic French and Thai.

The space is grand and imposing, yet still maintaining a level of peace and intimacy with the limited number of tables and five star service, so you must book in advance to secure your table.
