Ottolie Wekezer
A Vivid Way of Seeing

For Ottolie Wekezer, art begins with looking closely. Working across acrylic, oil and mixed media, the contemporary abstract artist transforms the colours, textures and rhythms of everyday life into expressive compositions. Her work is bold, vibrant and full of movement, yet it also invites a quiet moment of reflection. Through colour and form, she encourages viewers to pause, look again and reconnect with the beauty of the world around them.

Originally from the UK, Ottolie’s creative journey has been shaped by different cultures and places. Before moving to Saigon, Vietnam, in 2021, she lived and worked in India and Malaysia. These experiences have had a strong influence on her artistic language, especially the vivid palettes, layered textures, landscapes, people and traditions of Asia. Rather than presenting these influences in a literal way, she turns them into impressions of place, memory and emotion.

Ottolie’s practice is rooted in direct observation. She is drawn to familiar scenes, fleeting moments and the individuality of people she encounters. A landscape, a face, a street scene or a simple moment from daily life can become the starting point for a work that feels both personal and universal. By exploring perspective in fresh and unexpected ways, she allows the viewer to see the familiar differently.

Traditionally trained and recognised as a portrait artist, Ottolie first developed her practice through a bold impressionistic style. Her early portraits focused on capturing not only likeness, but also character, presence and mood. In recent years, her work has moved toward a more contemporary abstract style, giving her greater freedom to explore colour, texture and form. Even as her paintings become more abstract, a strong sense of human connection remains at the centre of her work.

Her compositions are approachable but thoughtful. Strong colour creates an immediate visual impact, while layered surfaces add depth and emotion. Each painting feels like a moment held in time, offering viewers space to enter the work through their own memories and experiences.

In late 2022, Ottolie founded Get Arty Studio in Saigon. The space serves as her private studio and gallery, as well as a creative hub for art lovers, collectors and community students. It reflects her belief that art should be open, engaging and closely connected to everyday life.

Alongside her studio practice, Ottolie creates private commissions for collectors around the world. Whether shown in a gallery or displayed in a personal collection, her work carries a sense of warmth, energy and emotional resonance. Through bold colour, layered texture and fresh perspective, Ottolie Wekezer creates art that reminds us to find beauty in ordinary moments and to see the world with renewed attention.
